I am borrowing a piece of Joan Didion’s famous book title to make a point; I don’t think she would mind. I can’t ask permission because she expired in 2021, but I am a fan of her works.
After yelling and cursing the television screen for a few weeks now, thanks to the pampered and entitled Ivy League students and their new besties, the Palestinian agitators, I began to understand their imagined cause. They hate their parents, they hate their country, they hate you and me, and they hate themselves for hating everything and understanding nothing: the “everybody gets a participation trophy” generation has come of age. The soccer moms and helicopter parents created this pack of little Franken-Children, and us old folks have to suffer their folly.
I’m no Dr. Phil, (although the name affiliation is there) just an old guy that has seen a thing or three and stayed in a Holiday Inn Express a few times, although I prefer Drury Inns. This is my blog, and I can darn sure say what I please, no matter how much it offends, or not. Getting kicked off of Twitter numerous times, only makes me more insufferable.
I remember being a teenager in the turbulent sixties when protest against the Vietnam War and Lyndon Johnson were in full swing. Those were mostly students and a mix of outsiders singing songs and they carrying signs, that mostly say hooray for our side and all that Hippie Dippy Love Love Panda crap. Yes, they burned and bombed some buildings and would have lynched L.B.J. if they had gotten their THC-stained hands on him. Their purpose was to end the war, not end America. As misguided as they were, the strength in numbers and the news media’s coverage gave them a skewed and at times, misguided pulpit, and it did make a difference. Those little Hippie protesters, for the most part, grew up to be productive citizens and parents, although many of them became Devil-Dog politicians, radical teachers and Satanic university professors and they, Dear Hearts, are partially responsible for the turmoil of today. Once our boys in Washington took prayer, God and the Bible out of our schools, the Demon Brigades sallied forth, and the slow walk away from Christianity began. Thank God and Pastor Greg Laurie, it’s resurging with a vengeance never before seen in this country. Is it too little too late? Maybe for some, that are past the point of reason, their minds altered from tiny Demonic brain worms. (a cool phrase lifted from Bobby Kennedy).
Instead of carrying signs and singing songs of praise while marching toward Bethlehem, the misguided young’uns, wearing their backpack full of trophies, are slouching away towards evil.

So as you do, call them out at every opportunity pointing out the flaws in their logic and deceit in their agendas. We’re listening. We’re adding our voices. When the Democratic Woke social syphilis peaks and no one is left to support them, sanity may return.

Praying for it soon. Now would be a perfect time for Jesus to return, just to shake things up, maybe not the Rapture, but a preview of what’s to come. I would make the popcorn, get out the lawn chairs and take it all in. I try to call it as I see it, not always right, or PC, but straight forward.

I really like Joan Didion. Her description of California was so fabulous. I lived out there for four years–you know–had to split for the coast and get nt head together. Ha. Didn’t stay long and didn’t do drugs.
But you are dead on here. Unfortunately, many of those protestors are university professors now and they are brainwashing these kids. Turns out they aren’t for free speech at all–they are for THEIR speech. I know because I taught as an adjunct in Northern MI U. Every sphere of influence is controlled by them, and we might have awakened too late. MSM Media, Hollywood, university, and government deep state. So in many ways it is not their fault. I could go on and on about things like “literary theory” which is nothing but post-colonial, post structural Marxism. They are even “re-interpreting” great works as mostly white racist history. Heart of Darkness, ground breaking for shining a light on racism, is a racist book. These people don’t understand writers’ techniques. Don’t understand authors have characters that are bad in order to get us to see that. It’s so ridiculous, it gives me a headache.
But let me give you one example. I overheard my colleagues saying that in her class if a minority student was relaying some experience, and a white kid said, “oh, I can understand that because…” she said she told them, “NO, you do NOT understand. You are trivializing and diminishing this student’s experience.” Universalism is dead. Trying to find common humanity is not allowed now. It’s all about division. When I was in grad school, I argued to my professor about this–he was good at kicking trash cans. Then eventually he talked about the students protesting for free speech in Berkely and how even the conservative kids marched. I raised my hand, “Huh, they had some basic human goal in common.” I argued it was universalism that allowed us to accept others’ differences and we were throwing out the baby with the bathwater.
It’s division BY DESIGN.
This is all about the oppressed/oppressor narrative. Which dooms society, but essentially that means whites, Jewish people, and even Asians.
They ended up attacking me publicly in staff emails, calling me an “anti-intellectual” and I was worked out of the adjuncting queue, which was ok at the time since my dad had Parkinson’s and my son testicular cancer….
Sorry about that tome here but education is probably the biggest problem we have in this country. Not sure how to deal with it, either.

Thanks for the engaging and truthful response. Your opinion will be appreciated by the other readers since you came from the belly of the beast, and survived intact. Momo and I are worried about our young grandchildren, still in grade school and are being taught every wokism available. We already see the signs, even at their young age.

Thank you for this fabulous insight as to what’s going on in-as Strawn says-“the belly of the beast.”

You are welcome. It’s scary stuff. I could write about it for days. They are teaching kids that an author’s intent doesn’t matter, and they are free to ignore it, to reinterpret the whole thing in light of the writer’s background. Or any kind of “racist” language (used for effect to horrify people) is called a racist work. It’s nuts. The author and novel are “dead.” Once something is written it becomes the property of the collective and they can interpret it as they please. Well, I won’t get going again. Ha.

You are right on with that one. Never thought to approach it that way, but now, I see it as so. Scary.

Debating and protesting for a worthy cause may be a lost art with college students. Saying something is stupid is not debating. Protesting and not being able to explain why, may have them supporting the wrong cause. 🙂

Great post and sadly too true.

Trying to hold on to the Fruits of the Spirit is getting more and more difficult. Some days it pays to ignore stupidity and take a nap. Hold on to the plan of the Almighty, even though we don’t know what it is. But it IS good for those who can stand what is happening around us.
