Alright, Dear Hearts, instead of giving advice to non-Texans or folks who want to be but can’t get here, I am asking for your opinion. I am considering making some of my stories into a Podcast. Is that a good idea or a bad one? I’m on the fence about the whole change. It won’t be every story, just a select few. I have a nice Podcast microphone, the correct software, and WordPress lets me load a plugin that will support it, so everything is there, but the commitment.
My speaking voice, via mic, is somewhere between a whispering Wobagon Garrison Keillor or a deranged Walter Brennan, so I have to work on that to find one that won’t send everyone to the delete button. I will find it. I have a few of my older stories that would make a good podcast, if I can read them correctly. Oration is something I’ve not tried, although I sang in a band for 20 plus years, so my voice is not grating. Let me know if you think it’s a good idea. I’m all ears, now that I’m old, and your ears do grow larger when you age. My long hair covers my hearing aids, and my walking stick ( cane ) protects me from the old ladies at H.E.B. who try to kill me with their shopping carts.
I did shave off the goatee and mustache, but still look like an old rock musician touring act, only I play country, bluegrass and worship music nowadays. Let me know. This is serious.

Phil,
I’ve always enjoyed reading your stories and think they’d make a great podcast. I listen to quite a few special education podcasts and enjoy listening on my drive to Ft. Worth and schools in our region.
Have you ever used Notebook LM? It’s in the Google ‘waffle’ tile in the too right corner. You can put your co tent in and it will outline your podcast for you! I was impressed when a colleague showed it to us – a great tool!
Good luck!
Susan
Thanks, Susan, I haven’t heard of that tool but will check it out. I will be using Audacity and Pod Love loaded into WordPress. Glad you have been reading all along, and it’s good to hear from you. Tell Steve howdy from me.
When you said “podcast,” I was thinking of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. My bad. I think a podcast is a good idea. As for your voice, I assume you have a bit of Texas twang in it, which would be perfect for the stories you tell. You could also add a bit of guitar plucking to your podcast. And, of course, don’t forget to throw in some cherry bombs.
Yep, I do have that twang. I loved that movie, the original one from the 50s. Cherry bombs are always included in everything.
Go for it. I’d check it out!
Thanks, Nany, Ima gonna do it.
If you’re on the fence about it, go for it. Otherwise, you’ll have regrets. Try a few podcasts and gauge the response. You’ll know whether to continue or not. And if nobody likes it, what do they know? Haha! 🙂
I got plenty of encouragement from readers, so I’m going to try it. Too old to not to.
Try two or three and see how it goes. You may have what people consider an interesting voice. Most people hate the sound of their own voices at first. We don’t sound like we think we do, because we are inside the box it comes out of. John Lennon hated the sound of his voice! George Martin thought the edge it had made all the difference in getting words across. You may be one of those.
Thanks, the votes are saying go for it, so I will. I sang in a rock band for 20 years and country band for 10, so it can’t be that bad.
You never know what you can do till you try, right? I would be a listener.
Thanks Herb, thats three votes for yes.
Am I writing this in the right place? As long as you’re asking, I say do a podcast! If you chicken out you will probably be wondering for the rest of your days WHY you didn’t take the chance. Just sayin’
Thanks GG, I am going for it.
I say, go for it, Phil. You have all of the equipment, you definitely have the stories, and it sounds like your voice will be a prefect fit.
Thanks for the yes vote, Terry.
