WordPress sent me a note today informing me that Notes From The Cactus Patch has been on their platform for 14 years. I have shirts older than that, and maybe some socks and a few pairs of underwear, but I was taken aback; it only seems like a few years. I did lose some posts, around fifty or so, early on because I was technically ignorant—and still am, but better. Not that this means anything, but just to let my readers know. I’m sure some of you have been here as long.

Congratulations, Phil. It’ll be 10 years for me in November. That said, I redesigned my blog a couple or three years ago and deleted everything up until then. So I guess you could say I lost a few posts too. Nice thing about that is that I can re-invent some of those old posts and they’ll be brand new to my more recent followers. Upside to everything, Phil.
10 years is also a long time. Most blogs last an average of 3 years before people run out of things to say.

Fourteen years is long time to be writing anything. I remember when I first discovered your blog. I read almost two years of your posts because I couldn’t stop laughing. You make people laugh and you make people think. Fourteen years of that is something worth noting and celebrating.

Bob, I’ve written over 500 posts, mostly stories, and ai did delete many of my political post. I lost around 100 when I switched from another Blogger platform back in 2012. That may not be a lot for some folks, but I don’t write everyday just for the sake of putting something out there. A lot of what we are reading in every day post is AI generated.
Everything I write is, and will be, my work ( except of course spellcheck).
I use Grammarly for spell checking and sentence mistakes, the paid version is very good for that. WordPress does the same but are too darn woke and tend filter your writing suggesting non-offensive phrases or words: not sure how many users have picked up on that. I recently changed my old theme to Hemingway, and it made a big difference in how WP works. I’ve learned to trick WordPress with titles and certain work arounds so they can’t cancel me, too much that is. I do realize that some of my opinions and stories bother folks.
By the way, I am starting a podcast soon on WordPress. I have the mic and the program (Audacity), and I will be reading stories in my Texas twang Walter Brennan/Garrison Keillor voice.
